Recreation & Sport
Recreation Program Vision & Goals
We recognize the importance of building and maintaining quality friendships and acknowledge the positive emotional impact of feeling accepted by one’s peers. Thus, we create multiple opportunities within our middle school and high school programs for social connectivity. Our robust schedule of after-school, evening, weekend, and occasional overnight activities provides students with a platform to enhance and enrich their social skills.

Dance: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
This will be a structured dance class: warm-up, exercises across the floor, and a combination, with the goal of fostering joy, community, and self-esteem through movement. Warm-up is based on Brain-Compatible Dance Education (BCDE), a teaching philosophy and internationally recognized methodology that prepares students for learning and may help with social-emotional skills. It is an excellent full-body and brain warm-up that sequences through eight fundamental movement patterns of early human development and helps to center the brain and body. We will then do a few exercises across the floor, working on gross motor skills, coordination, and moving through the space in different ways. A combination will be taught that we will practice and add to each week. The goal is to have a finished dance to share at the end of the session. Students will have the opportunity to be creative/expressive and to connect with each other in every class through free dance to their favorite songs.
Arts & Crafts: 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
The art class offers opportunities for creative expression through painting and crafting projects. Students will be encouraged to develop freedom of expression while building self-confidence, listening skills, and the ability to work from part to whole in their weekly projects.
