A Celebration of Spirit: The LABBB Special Olympics
Inclusion | Community | Potential
There is a specific kind of magic that takes over every spring when the LABBB School Day Games arrive. More than just a date on the calendar, this Special Olympics-sponsored event is a day where barriers disappear, and the pure joy of sport and friendship takes center stage. The Games are a beautiful reflection of what we value most: the incredible potential of every student.
What Makes the Day Special?
While the athletic feats are impressive, the heart of the day lies in the connections made on the field.
- Unified Partnerships: We are proud to have our Best Buddies chapters from across all member districts pairing up with our athletes. They compete side-by-side in unified events, proving that we are always stronger together.
-
Community Heroes: Our athletes are supported by a literal village. You’ll see local police and fire departments, town leaders, and familiar faces from the community volunteering their time.
-
Expert Care: Our dedicated classroom staff are right there to supervise and support our students, ensuring every child feels safe, confident, and celebrated.
The Schedule of Events
The energy of the day is electric from start to finish:
- Opening Ceremony
The traditional Parade of Athletes, featuring the carrying of the torch, the National Anthem, and the Special Olympics oaths. - The Games
A morning dedicated to athletic events, including the 50m dash, softball throw, long jump, and mini-javelin. - Awards Ceremony
After a well-earned lunch, we gather to honor every participant for their hard work and bravery. - Social Hour
We wrap up the afternoon with friends, yard games, and a game of soccer.
A Lasting Impact
The School Day Games are one of our favorite days of the year. It is a day of camaraderie that stays with our students, families, and staff long after the final whistle blows.
We can’t wait to see you there!
